The Club America vs Atlanta United CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal match will be broadcast live online and on TV as Las Aguilas host the Five Stripes at the Estadio Azteca this Wednesday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. Pacific.
Club America has been one of the best teams in the Liga MX, currently in third place with 17 points. Los Azulcremas defeated Guatemalan team Comunicaciones in a penalty shootout as the Mexico City team struggled in the round of 16.
Las Aguilas have not won in league play since that second-leg against Comunicaciones as America lost to Necaxa 3-0 and are coming off a 3-3 draw against crosstown rivals Pumas UNAM. Federico Vinas is clearly the most talented player on the capital city team as Henry Martin and the rest of the Club America attack need to be more consistent.
Atlanta United had no problems against Honduran team Motagua, defeating them by an aggregate score of 4-1 in the CCL round of 16. However, star striker Josef Martinez is out for the entire season as this is a huge blow for the American team.
Martinez scored two goals in the series against Motagua as Atlanta United will now need to count on players like Gonzalo Martinez and Ezequiel Barco in the attack. The Five Stripes have won their first two MLS games of the season, but are the underdogs heading into this matchup.
FutnSoccer predicts a 3-1 win for Club America in this match as Las Aguilas have a more well-balanced team than Atlanta.
