América can expect to lose two key players to international duty for this year’s Tokyo Olympics.
The coach of Mexico’s U-23 side, Jaime Lozano, has admitted that he has already decided on the three overage stars he will add to his young squad.
“We have already made a decision. I will not say it today because I want to talk to them first,” Lozano told a virtual press conference.
“We already have the three reinforcements. We are calm and happy. I wanted to finish this tour and then get in touch with them and that’s why I don’t want to tell you right now.”
MedioTiempo reports that América’s Guillermo Ochoa and Henry Martín are believed to be on list, along with Cruz Azul centre-back Luis Romo.
Lozano was speaking in the wake of a 3-2 friendly victory over Australia that concluded El Tri’s pre-Olympic U-23 tour of Spain.
They had previously beaten Romania 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Saudi Arabia.
Mexico have been drawn in Group A for the Olympic Football Tournament along with France, South Africa and hosts Japan.
Lozano’s men will begin their campaign against France at Tokyo Stadium on 22 July, which is also the day the Liga MX Apertura is scheduled to begin.
