Ruben Amorim says that Crystal Palace are “doing things better” than Man United while playing a similar system.

The Red Devils can leapfrog the south London outfit in the Premier League table with a win this Sunday when they meet at Selhurst Park. The two clubs are separated by five places and two points after 12 matches.

United are looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to ten-man Everton ended their five-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 Old Trafford on Monday night.

Speaking ahead of the game on Friday, Amorim eschewed any suggestion that this was the perfect opportunity to get back on track against a Palace that lost in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.

“In our club it’s the same thing, last year we had to win every game all of the time,” he said in his pre-match press conference. “We took a lot of things, a lot of criticism because we were not winning. So in our club there are no excuses.

“I’ve already spoken about Europe and I said the same thing last year when we were in Europe and I say the same thing this year; the advantage and disadvantage of not being in Europe. There are no excuses. We have to always win games.”

Amorim and Oliver Glasner have earned comparisons due to both managers deploying three central defenders, but the Portuguese coach believes his counterpart has done better job implementing his system.

“We play the different way,” he said. “You can understand that by data. But it’s hard to explain everything. Like you said, it’s a different club and they are doing things better than us.

“So that is quite simple. You don’t say that all 4-3-3 play in the same way, right? We play in a different moment, we defend in a different space, we try to attack in a different way. They are just doing things better than us.”
