Manchester United are gearing up for a blockbuster Premier League showdown against Arsenal at Old Trafford tomorrow.
Manager Ruben Amorim faces a crucial selection dilemma ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
Harry Maguire suffered a knock during United’s FA Cup heartbreak against Fulham and is expected to miss tomorrow’s clash.
Adding to manager’s headaches, January signing Patrick Dorgu is ruled out after receiving a straight red card in the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.
With Dorgu suspended, Diogo Dalot is the frontrunner to slot in at left wing-back, while Noussair Mazraoui is expected to patrol the opposite flank.
Matthijs de Ligt is set to anchor the back three, with teenage sensation Leny Yoro likely to take up the left centre-back role.
We believe Amorim may have no choice but to hand Victor Lindelof his first Premier League start of the season.
The Sweden international has been limited to just six substitute appearances in the league, struggling for minutes under Amorim’s reign.
Injuries and stiff competition have pushed him down the pecking order.
He could be on his way out of Old Trafford, with his contract set to expire in June.
Meanwhile, rising star Ayden Heaven presents another option for Amorim in defence.
The 18-year-old would relish the chance to go up against his former club, making it a dream scenario for the young defender.
However, Amorim has shown a tendency to shield young players from high-pressure situations, and he may take the safer route by starting the experienced Lindelof.
Heaven is still expected to feature off the bench, likely replacing either Lindelof or Yoro at some stage.
Lindelof arrived at United in a £31 million deal back in 2017 and has been a reliable squad player over the years.
Given his recent availability issues, it makes sense for United to part ways with him in the summer rather than handing him a lucrative new deal.
