Ruben Amorim admits Milan ‘didn’t deserve to win, or more like Juventus didn’t deserve to lose’ after their 1-1 draw in Turin. ‘We need to move more and be braver.’
The Rossoneri had struggled to create any genuine scoring opportunities in Turin and thanked first Mike Maignan, then the frame of the goal for keeping out Francisco Conceicao.

Substitute Alphadjo Cisse gave them the lead somewhat against the run of play with a well-taken angled drive through Pierre Kalulu’s legs, but in stoppages Federico Gatti nodded in the Teun Koopmeiners cross for the late equaliser.
It means both Milan and Juventus lose their 100 per cent start to the Serie A season, dropping points in this head-to-head.

“We didn’t deserve to win, if we are honest, or more like Juventus didn’t deserve to lose,” confessed Amorim to DAZN Italia.
“We tried to play our game, we were not good with the ball. We had moments when we controlled the game in the first half, but we started losing the ball a lot, we didn’t play well, but again we have been working together for two months. We need to do better, but we need time, it was a tough game for us.”
Milan had not scored in Serie A against Juve since Olivier Giroud in May 2023, firing blanks in the next six meetings until 19-year-old Cisse found the net.

“We have individual quality, but the simple things are the most important things, the way we receive and pass the ball, the fundamentals of football, today we were not good,” added Amorim.
“My feeling is when my team doesn’t have the ball, we struggle. When Juve put a lot of strikers in front, we defended well, but we suffered more when we lost the ball and they had transitions.
“We are not going to change the way we play, because we know that in some games it’ll go well, in others it won’t, but the important thing is that we fight to win. We could’ve won today, but again Juventus didn’t deserve to lose either.”

Diego Moreira made his debut and seemed quiet, while Adrien Rabiot was also less effective than he had been as a substitute in the first two matches.
“We are changing the way we play, we did well in some moments. My feeling was in the first half we were not under a lot of pressure, we lost the ball sometimes without pressure, we put the ball in danger, and that is something we need to learn, to be more aggressive and defend with the ball. If we want to keep the ball, we need to move more and be braver.
“It’s a big stadium, against a big team and a very good manager, so I don’t want to be too negative with my players, but of course we want more.”

Amorim had said in his first pre-season press conference that he ‘loves’ Cisse, and the 19-year-old is certainly showing why with another goal.
“I’m really happy with all the players and want to be careful with the young players, because now everyone makes them really big really soon. He is a young kid, he’s just starting his career and needs to train well. Everyone loves to see a kid doing really well, I look at Cisse and think he can do so much better,” added Amorim.
“Today was not the perfect day, but sometimes I want too much, and we were so close to winning this game.”
