Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee must reportedly pass athletic tests to earn call-ups against West Ham United.

In his press conference on Wednesday, Ruben Amorim provided updates on the conditions of some of his players. The Portuguese manager confirmed that Matheus Cunha will return to the squad after a two-match absence due to a head injury. On the contrary, Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko are still unavailable.

However, the most interesting revelation concerned two anonymous players, as Amorim admitted that he and the medical staff remain unsure whether this unnamed Man Utd duo will be fit enough to play against the Hammers on Thursday evening.

Bruno Fernandes & Joshua Zirkzee could skip West Ham clash

Needless to say, the manager’s announcement sparked intrigue among fans and observers keen to find out the identity of the United duo, and whether they’ll be able to make it.

A popular account on X (formerly Twitter) revealed that the two men in question are Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee.

The club captain’s doubtful condition shouldn’t be a complete shocker, as he seemed to be struggling with a knock in the final minutes of Sunday’s contest against Crystal Palace.

Amorim admitted he was furious with Fernandes, who should have informed the dugout of his condition while substitution slots were still available. However, the manager was quick to rule out an injury at the time.

Which Man Utd players would replace Zirkzee & Bruno against West Ham?

Zirkzee earned his first two starting appearances in the Premier League this season in the back-to-back contests against Everton and Palace, largely due ot the absence of Sesko and Cunha. But with the Brazilian now back in the fold, the Man Utd boss has a natural replacement at his disposal.

On the other hand, Bruno’s absence would arguably be a more concerning matter for Amorim, as the skipper has been omnipresent in his lineup this season.

Nevertheless, the manager had long identified Kobbie Mainoo as Fernandes’ understudy, so it remains to be seen if the young Englishman will finally break into the starting XI.
