Leeds United Women extended their winning streak to four games this afternoon, beating Huddersfield Town Women 1-0 at the Accu Stadium, thanks to Amy Woodruff’s last-gasp winner.

In a disciplined display, the Whites reaped the rewards of their resilience, as Woodruff cut in off the left and beat her defender, before firing into the bottom corner to seal all three points in the FA WNL Division One North.

Following on from back-to-back cup clashes beating Norton & Stockton Ancients in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on penalties, and 5-2 win over York City in the FA WNL Cup Group U, Leeds added another victory to their collection.

Speaking after the game, last-minute hero Woodruff said: “We had to stay focussed for every minute, every second of that game. We covered every blade of grass, and I think as a team we showed our resilience and how we can work together and react.

“We stayed to the exact game plan, and I think from the defence, through to midfield, to the attack, it was outstanding today so full credit to the girls, it was a great team performance.

“I had a great season last year,” Woodruff added on her personal goals. “I think the standards I set myself everyone thinks too.

“It hasn’t gone like last season and that’s absolutely fine because we are still scoring goals and I’m helping with assists.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks and to come here and score a goal that means so much to the club and so much to the league is a great feeling.”

“My main focus always will be getting goals in a match, no matter who scores, and my expectation as a striker, I will be trying to kick on now.”

On next week’s clash: “After this, I feel really confident – we have no reason not to be, no reason why we can’t win there.

“We faced them in pre-season, so we have got an idea of how they are how they set up, so straight back in on Tuesday, focus on Hull and look forward to Sunday again.
