Manchester City became the first team to make eight consecutive FA Cup semi-finals when they swept aside Liverpool 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final victory was arguably one of their best performances of the season, and it should fill Pep Guardiola’s side with confidence that they can go on to win this season’s FA Cup. To get to a fourth consecutive FA Cup final, City will have to overcome Championship side Southampton at Wembley. That will be no easy task, given that Southampton upset Arsenal to book an FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City.
The FA Cup semi-final draw took place after Leeds United beat West Ham on penalties at the London Stadium on Sunday. Chelsea will play Leeds at Wembley and Manchester City will face Southampton. The dates and times of the FA Cup finals are yet to be confirmed. The matches will take place on April 25 and 26.
While Manchester City will almost be unbackable favourites against Southampton, the Saints will be no pushover at Wembley. Southampton picked up a famous 2-1 win over Arsenal at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday. A late goal for City academy graduate Shea Charles was enough for Southampton to cause a famous FA Cup upset. Southampton manager Tonda Eckert has his team playing well, and with the heart necessary to have them in a fight for a play-off spot in Championship. They have also had an impressive FA Cup run and now a FA Cup semi-final date with Pep Guardiola’s side awaits the Saints.
Manchester City will face Southampton in the semi-final stage of the FA Cup. The match will be another huge one for Pep Guardiola’s side against a team that can be considered this season’s Cinderella side in the FA Cup.
