Barcelona are one of many teams to keep an eye on this summer, and one area that certainly deserves a lot of attention is their attacking options for Hansi Flick’s first season as manager. There’s been significant change already from the end of last season, and there could be more to come.

Joao Felix has returned to Atletico Madrid following the expiry of his loan spell, and while he could return, it doesn’t look overly likely at this stage. That could be good for Barcelona, given that they already have sufficient options going into next season. As of right now, there are seven senior options for Hansi Flick to choose from.

Robert Lewandowski

One of the safe starters for next season. Lewandowski was off the boil in 2023-24, but he still ended up with 26 goals across all competitions. The expectation is that he will return to a good level with Flick in charge, given how strong he was when the pair were together at Bayern Munich.

Vitor Roque

Roque’s case is an interesting one. Many doubts have been raised about his future over the last few months, and recently, he’s been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. However, it would surely make no sense to part ways with the Brazilian teenager this summer – whether that be on a temporary or permanent basis.

He’s more than capable of playing second-fiddle to Lewandowski, who will not be able to start every match next season (baring in mind that he turns 36 in August). Thus, it’s important that he gets regular minutes to ensure that he keeps developing.

Ferran Torres

Ferran’s versatility will mean that he stays at Barcelona for at least one more season, and he already confirmed as much earlier in the summer. He had a strong start to the 2023-24 campaign, but injury and lack of opportunities meant that he struggled in the later months. He’s more than capable of being a very valuable squad player for Flick.

Raphinha

Of the options on this list, Raphinha is the player that is most likely to be sold, despite the fact that he is one of the most decisive players in the Barcelona squad. He’s more than good enough to be a starter, but Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams (if he joins) would be the nailed-on starters next season. Nevertheless, he’d be a fantastic backup to the former on the right wing, but because his value is so high, and because a big sale is needed, it makes more sense to move him on.

Lamine Yamal

Nailed starter, simple as that. Another big season is expected of Lamine Yamal, but it’s imperative that he does not play as many matches as he did in 2023-24. Flick will be aware that the teenager’s minutes must be managed.

Nico Williams – TBC

Signing Williams appears to be top of Barcelona’s agenda at this stage, and with good reason. He has a fantastic Euro 2024 campaign, and his link-up with Lamine Yamal could be replicated at club level. If a deal can be finalised, it would be a top signing for the Catalans. He can also cover Lamine Yamal on the right wing if necessary.

Ansu Fati

Can the redemption arc start now? Fati is facing his last chance to secure a permanent stay at Barcelona, and the early reports suggest that he is impressing Flick. If he can return to pre-ACL form, there’s no doubt that he would be a massive player for next season and beyond – fingers crossed that he can put the injury problems behind him. A loan is possible, but if he can show a good level in pre-season, it’d make much more sense to keep him in Catalonia.
