Ancelotti defends Vinicius amid poor Real Madrid form: ‘His quality is undeniable’ | OneFootball

Speaking to the media ahead of Brazil’s upcoming friendly matches, Carlo Ancelotti has launched a strong defence of Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr.

The Brazilian international has endured a poor start to the season and has come under-fire after a string of disappointing displays.

On his most recent appearance for the club in the derby against Atletico Madrid, Vinicius was hooked off by manager Jose Mourinho early in the second period.

Considering that he only recently signed a new long-term contract with a bumper salary raise, the 26-year-old attacker has come under intense scrutiny from fans and critics alike.

Ancelotti backs Vinicius to turn things around

However, Ancelotti, who had managed to get the best out of Vinicius at Real Madrid, has backed the superstar to turn things around.

“He’s not at his best right now, but, for example, he did very well at the World Cup. As a player, you can never be at 100%. Vinicius’s quality is undeniable,” said Ancelotti, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Further praising the Brazilian international, the Selecao manager added: “He’s a fantastic player, one of the best in the world. I’m sure he’ll be at his best in the upcoming matches.”

Vinicius needs to step up

So far in 2026/27, Vinicius has started all of Real Madrid’s eight matches in all competitions, managing a return of only one goal and three assists.

The 26-year-old has looked a pale shadow of his former self who could decide matches with his brilliance on the left flank, and his performances have rightly been questioned.

As reported earlier, Vinicius himself is fully aware that his displays have been nowhere near the level expected of him and is determined to turn things around.

It is even more necessary for the winger to step up considering that summer arrival Yan Diomande and Brahim Diaz are waiting in the wings.

Now currently under the command of Ancelotti, Vinicius will hope to regain his form and confidence as Brazil play two friendlies against Australia and one more versus India before returning to Real Madrid.
