Ancelotti-favourite Real Madrid star reaches agreement over a new contract until 2027 | OneFootball

Following the renewal of Andriy Lunin last week, Real Madrid are understood to have tied down another player to a new contract.

Indeed, according to MARCA, Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy has agreed to a new contract with the club until the summer of 2027.

An official announcement of the 29-year-old Frenchman’s renewal will be made in the next few days.

Ancelotti key behind renewal

Mendy’s current contract with Real Madrid was set to expire in the summer of 2025. That, coupled with the interest in Alphonso Davies, led to a lot of speculations about his future last summer.

However, manager Carlo Ancelotti made it abundantly clear to the club that he wanted Mendy in the squad and even asked for his contract renewal to be completed before going on vacation during the summer break.

The Italian tactician has constantly praised Mendy, hailing him as the best defensive left-back in the world on more than one occasion.

As such, the agreement had been taking shape throughout the summer. MARCA already announced in the middle of the Euro, that in Valdebebas they believed Mendy would be accepting the proposal that had been put on the table.

And that is how it happened, and in the next few days, the aforementioned contract extension will be made official.

A key player

Mendy has had his ups and downs since joining Real Madrid in 2019, mostly due to fitness issues, but has become one of Ancelotti’s most trusted and important players in recent years.

The Frenchman has become well-known for his defensive solidity, which was on showcase last season as players found it hard to get past him.

Even though Real Madrid remain keen on signing Alphonso Davies for free from Bayern Munich next year, Mendy’s imminent contract renewal shows the faith and confidence that Ancelotti has in him.
