🥒 And the Golden Cucumber goes to... quirky trophy crowns new winner

Tenerife beat Leganés 4-3 on penalties (after a 0-0 draw in regular time) on Saturday (8) and won the Pepino D’or.

This information would probably have gone unnoticed in the world news... if it weren’t for the VERY unusual shape of the trophy.

Leganés is a Spanish club from the city of Leganés, near Madrid.

The region is known for growing cucumbers. In fact, that is also the club’s mascot.

Leganés, the runner-up in this year’s edition, is the most successful club in Pepino D’or history.

Tenerife, meanwhile, was crowned champion for the first time and will be able to display it in its trophy room.
