Ander Herrera has renewed his Boca contract until December 2026 on reduced terms after an injury-hit 2025, prioritising the club over money.
After more than a week of pre-season in Ezeiza, Claudio Úbeda’s side drew 0-0 with Millonarios at La Bombonera in their first Copa Miguel Ángel Russo friendly. Herrera played one half and was the standout.
"I took a few days in Spain, and after three or four days I missed this a lot." "The club knew I would sign whatever was put on the table because I love this club and this stadium, and I can afford to fulfil the dream of playing for Boca without prioritising other aspects," he told ESPN.
He let an automatic extension lapse, feeling he had not met expectations due to injuries, then chose to re-sign while on holiday. The salary was not disclosed, and indications are of a cut of about 30% compared with 2025, with a productivity clause.
The regular season begins in 10 days, with a Torneo Apertura opener against Deportivo Riestra. Boca’s priority is the Copa Libertadores, a return after two years away.
"We know what the Libertadores means, a cup as prestigious as the Champions in Europe. With the humility of not having played it for two years, but with the ambition to be a cup team."
