Het Nieuwsblad is reporting that Anderlecht are in talks with Schalke 04 over the signing of goalkeeper Justin Heekeren. The 25-year-old was first choice for Schalke 04 in the 2. Bundesliga last season but has since found himself on the bench under Miron Muslic. Anderlecht had been considering moves for RAAL La Louviere’s number one Marcos Peano, or Montreal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois. However, in Heekeren they have found an opportunity to sign one of their targets for relatively cheap. The goalkeeper’s contract with Schalke 04 expires in the summer, so any fee this January shouldn’t be too substantial.
If Heekeren does join, it will allow Mads Kikkenborg to leave. The goalkeeper looks set to join a club in Norway, but his transfer could only go through if Anderlecht signed a replacement. Heekeren will now compete with Colin Coosemans for the number one spot, with the current Anderlecht goalkeeper having been crowned the Belgian goalkeeper of 2025 recently.
Heekeren began his career with Oberhausen, playing over 50 games before joining Schalke 04 in 2022. The goalkeeper did have a spell in Belgium already, with a loan move to Patro Eisden for the second half of the 2023/2024 season. Last year he played 30 games for Schalke 04, but this far he has made just one appearance in the DFB Pokal.
