England international Elliot Anderson has been made unavailable for Nottingham Forest’s Europa League quarter final second leg after the sad passing of his mother.

The midfielder, 23, was set to take part in the tie against Liga Portugal leaders Porto, which is currently level at 1-1, but will not participate after the club announced announced that he is bereaving the loss of his mother, Helen, on social media.

The statement read: “Elliot Anderson is unavailable for tonight’s fixture following the passing of his beloved mother, Helen.“Everyone at Nottingham Forest Football Club extends its deepest condolences to Elliot and his family following this extremely sad news.”

Forest, sat 17th in the Premier League, have the chance to reach their first European semi final in over four decades, but must now attempt to do so without one of their standout players this season.

Anderson has started every top flight match for the Trees this season, contributing two goals and two assists, while assisting once in 10 Europa League games.

He made his Three Lions debut under Thomas Tuchel in their victory over Andorra last September, earning seven caps since then.

Forest manager Vitor Pereira has made five changes to the side that drew in Portugal, as Neco Williams, Ola Aina, Ibrahim Sangare, Omari Hutchinson and Jair Cunha all enter the frame.

The quarter final second leg kicks off at 20:00 (GMT) at the City Ground.
