Nottingham Forest earned another vital point as Elliot Anderson struck late against his former side.
Newcastle United were the better side for the majority of the game at the City Ground against a Forest side who were looking to bounce back from their Europa League disappointment.
Will Osula had a great chance to put his side ahead just before the break when he was found in acres of space in the Forest box by Nick Woltemade. However, Matz Sels was out quickly and able to smother the shot.
Osula went close again in the second half when he whipped in a freekick that bounced off of Sels bar.
Newcastle eventually found a breakthrough in the 74th minute when two substitutes combined. First, Jacob Ramsey threading a perfectly-weighted throughball and then Harvey Barnes who latched on to and fired his side ahead.
The home team reacted well though as Elliot Anderson and James McAtee cut through the Magpies' defence with a one-two before the former Newcastle man fired in past Nick Pope.
Anderson went straight down after scoring with what looked to be just cramp. Thomas Tuchel may have been briefly worried but the Forest man was able to see out the match.
That result is another point that should bring Forest closer to safety while Newcastle's issues at the back continue. They should have had the game wrapped up but looked lost late on as Forest surged back.
