Andoni Iraola has agreed to become Liverpool’s new head coach for the 2026-27 season, the club said in a statement.
He expressed delight at the move, describing Liverpool as a huge, special club whose pull needs little explanation.
In Dorset he ended a superb three-year spell by leading Bournemouth to European football for the first time in 127 years. His last game with the Cherries was at the City Ground, after the Vitality Stadium had bid him farewell following a draw with Manchester City that sealed qualification. That draw also made Arsenal, managed by his friend Mikel Arteta, champions.
He succeeds Arne Slot, who only learned he would be leaving last Saturday morning. Liverpool want to evolve their style to be more offensive, aggressive and dynamic, and considered Iraola an ideal fit.
The coach from Usurbil had been in talks with Crystal Palace, Leverkusen and Milan, but once Liverpool’s interest emerged he ruled out other options and made clear he wanted to join.
