Andoni Iraola expressed relief after Bradley Barcola went off in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid.

The Frenchman pulled up around the hour, sat on the Anfield turf, then left to warm applause. According to L'Équipe, Iraola said it was only cramp.

The 24-year-old’s exit prompted concern a few days before Zinédine Zidane names his first France squad on 18 September. Iraola admitted he initially feared a thigh problem.

Barcola had only returned on Friday, coming off the bench in the 2-0 win over Ipswich, more than six and a half weeks after his previous competitive appearance with Les Bleus at the 2026 World Cup.

Liverpool signed the winger from PSG for €145 million including bonuses.
