New signing looked in pain in Champions League opener

Andoni Iraola has allayed fears over Bradley Barcola’s fitness after the Frenchman was substituted on the hour against Atletico Madrid.

The £123million signing was making his full debut for his new side following his move from Paris Saint-Germain, in a game that the Reds won 2-1.

The winger started off the right flank at Anfield, with Rio Ngumoha on the left as Cody Gakpo suffered tightness in his hip adductor.

The France international was replaced on the hour by fellow new recruit Victor Munoz, with the forward looking in discomfort as he left the field.

Iraola was quick to dismiss any injury concern ahead of his side’s encounter with Fulham on Saturday.

"We still need to train. We train this afternoon,” the Spaniard said.

"Barcola was just cramps. We have to evaluate how he is today, but there is no injury. I think he should be available if everything goes normal.

"Cody we will see. We will try today and see if he is ready for tomorrow or if we need to wait until the next one."

Gakpo was missing from the squad entirely on Tuesday evening, with Jeremie Frimpong replacing Ngumoha on 60 minutes, while Munoz came on for Barcola.

The Dutchman moved to the right flank, while the Spaniard operated off the left, with Alexander Isak as the No9.

The Reds recorded a comeback victory over last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, with Marcos Llorente’s opener cancelled out by Dominik Szoboszlai’s equaliserm before Alexis Mac Allister notched a second five minutes into the second half to complete the turnaround.
