Liverpool still have a lot of the summer transfer window to go before questions need to start being asked.
One of the main goals that the Reds should have this summer is to upgrade their team in more than one area.
Their defence, midfield and attack all need at least one or two players adding to them in order for them to get remotely close to challenging for silverware again.
And, since they don't have an endless money pit that they can dip into, they're going to have to be rather strategic about the players they sign and sell.
Because, if they sell too many and don't sign enough to replace them, injuries could cripple their campaign once again.
So, the fact that the Reds may end up hijacking a €25 million deal that Arsenal have lined up makes a lot of sense.
Lutsharel Geertruida was one of Liverpool's main targets during the January transfer window.
The Reds suffered major losses at right-back during the 2025-26 campaign which resulted in players such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones being used there for extended periods.
However, since the Reds couldn't agree a deal with RB Leipzig and Sunderland (the team he was loaned out to), the move never came to fruition and they ended up trying to sign Denzel Dumfries which also failed.
Since the collapse of Geertruida's deal, rumours have stayed consistent but now, a fresh update from Caught Offside has shared a new update on the situation.
"Sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that Arsenal have placed Lutsharel Geertruida on their shortlist for the right-back position, with the club’s board attracted by his versatility and experience," they wrote.
"Liverpool are also said to be monitoring the Dutch international as Iraola looks for a modern full-back who can contribute in possession and provide defensive flexibility.
"Liverpool’s interest has been mentioned elsewhere, with Football365 reporting in June that the Reds were “very keen” on the RB Leipzig defender after his representatives held discussions with club officials.
"However, no official bid has yet been confirmed."

One of the best assets that a footballer can have in this day and age is versatility.
With how many games footballers play each season, injuries are becoming more frequent and players are needing much more rest.
For example, even though Florian Wirtz is a number 10 by trade, he was often used on the wing or as a number 8 by Arne Slot.
Geertruida is literally the perfect defensive signing for Liverpool. He's fast, a current international and can play anywhere across the defence.
His best position is obviously as a right-back but, with how unlucky the Reds were in that position last season, bringing in another right-back could be a rather smart play.
The fact that Geertruida would only cost around €25 million (£21.2 million) is absurd, especially since he's already experienced a season of Premier League football.
The Dutchman is also only 25 years old so, even though he's already good, he has plenty of time to develop into an even more impressive player.
