According to L'Équipe, André Giuseppin, former Toulouse and Red Star goalkeeper, died on Monday aged 86. He also competed at the Rome 1960 Olympics.

He was known as "le Fermier volant", reflecting an unorthodox stance and farming roots at a time when goalkeepers were still shaping their style.

He came through Toulouse’s ranks and debuted at 17. He made 102 top flight appearances and featured in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the forerunner to the Europa League, under coach Kader Firoud.

He later joined Red Star then Angoulême during the 1960s, winning promotion to the top division with both in 1965 and 1968.

He did not share in Toulouse’s 1957 Coupe de France triumph, senior keeper Guy Roussel started the final. He also experienced the club’s 1967 merger with Red Star.

A prominent figure in Haute-Garonne football, he volunteered for years at FC Hilaire/Le Fauga. His funeral will take place on Saturday at 15:00 in Le Fauga.
