Sheffield Wednesday’s survival hopes took a sizeable dent on Saturday afternoon, as they were beaten 4-1 by QPR at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
A brace from Lyndon Dykes, whilst goals from Stefan Johansen and Chris Willock saw the Hoops run out comfortable winners on the day.
But Josh Windass was the only player to get on the scoresheet for Darren Moore’s side, with their survival chances now hanging by a thread in the Championship.
The Owls are now sat 23rd in the second-tier standings, and find themselves seven points adrift of safety heading into their final six matches of this year’s campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday winger Andre Green came on as a second-half substitute in the defeat to the Hoops, in what was his sixth appearance for the club.
Green signed for the Owls back in January, having previously been a free-agent, after his spell with Aston Villa reached a conclusion at the end of the 2019/20 season.
The winger took to Instagram following Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat to QPR, and insisted that giving up wasn’t an option in their bid for survival this term.
Sheffield Wednesday are set to return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host promotion-chasing Swansea City, in what is certain to be a tricky test at Hillsborough.
The Verdict:
They can’t afford to let this defeat impact their season.
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t been good enough this term, and I’m not surprised to see them struggling to stay afloat in the battle for survival in the Championship.
Green hasn’t been give much of a chance to impress so far in his time with the Owls, but he’ll be eager to make a good impression from now until the end of this year’s campaign.
It’s not going to get any easier for the Owls though, and I would be stunned if they picked up any points from their next match against Swansea City.
