After a disastrous two-year stint, Manchester United were forced to send Andre Onana out on loan in the summer.
Former manager Erik ten Hag had brought the Cameroonian in as David de Gea’s replacement owing to his superior ability with the ball at his feet.
However, a goalkeeper’s primary job is to stop the ball from going into the net, and the ex-Ajax ace proved to be dismal at that.
Multiple huge errors cost the Red Devils in the Premier League, Champions League, as well as the Europa League. Despite that, Ruben Amorim was open to offering the 29-year-old another chance.
But the Cameroon international blew it, with the goalie culpable for United’s Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town.
A loan to Trabzonspor was hastily arranged, where Andre Onana has enjoyed a decent spell of form, keeping three clean-sheets in 11 appearances.
The Turkish side are eager to keep the shot-stopper on a permanent basis, but his wages and United’s asking price are likely to be major roadblocks.
Andre Onana is keen to return to Old Trafford and challenge Senne Lammens for the No.1 spot, but following his AFCON snub, SportsBoom have revealed that the African star has been informed by the Red Devils that he has no future in Manchester.
The former Inter Milan star is eager to earn a high wage, as he has commitments back home. Which is why he had asked for a new United contract in the first place.
Not too many European sides will be keen on paying the goalkeeper an obscene wage packet, but Saudi Pro League sides remain interested and that might be Onana’s best shot.
“Andre Onana knows his future could lie in Saudi Arabia after being axed from Cameroon’s AFCON squad, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
“It is understood that the keeper has been told his Manchester United career is over after two ill-fated seasons at Old Trafford.
“Our sources have been told Onana was unhappy at the pay cut after United failed to qualify for European football this season due to having people is his homeland who depend on him financially.
“Onana has played at a number of big clubs during his career, but his performances in recent years have left him without any big-name suitors in Europe’s top leagues.
“Saudi Arabia Pro League clubs have previously expressed an interest in the under-fire stopper and United bosses are hopeful they will reignite their interest at the end of the season.”
The 20-time English league champions paid €50 million for his services in 2023. He currently has a market value of €20 million as per Transfermarkt.
It will be interesting to see the fee he fetches should United agree a deal with a club from Saudi Arabia.
