Andreas Christensen faces four to five weeks out after fresh Barcelona injury | OneFootball

This summer was seemingly the start of a new chapter for Andreas Christensen. The Dane had recovered from several physical issues that he suffered from during the last few years, and renewed his contract, which was set to expire this summer, with FC Barcelona.

Hansi Flick was also seemingly ready to trust the defender, and gave him an important role in the team at the start of the new season. However, misfortune has once again struck the Danish center-back, as he suffered another injury during the game against Sevilla.

Christensen suffered a blow from an opposition player during the second half. After an initial assessment, the team’s doctor asked Flick to sub out the defender, and the player was understandably dejected, with tears in his eyes, as he made his way to the bench.

More detailed tests have been conducted on him since then, and as Diario AS has reported, Barcelona published a medical statement in which they revealed that the defender has suffered a muscle tear in the quadriceps of the left leg, and thus will remain sidelined for several weeks.

The Spanish outlet understands that he is expected to spend four to five weeks on the sidelines, which means he will remain unavailable till November, and while the international break means he will not miss a lot of games, he will still be unable to play in the matches against Getafe, Real Betis, and Real Madrid in La Liga, and against Galatasaray and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Andreas Christensen can return to action for the game against Alaves on 1 November. Meanwhile, Hansi Flick will have several options to replace the Dane, as Pau Cubarsi, Gerard Martin, Eric Garcia, and even Jules Kounde all remain options to play as center-backs for Barcelona. Still, the team will miss Christensen’s experience and skills on the pitch.
