Benfica’s 4-2 win over Real Madrid reshaped Andreas Schjelderup’s season, scuppering a near-complete January move to Club Brugge.
Speaking on the MidMid podcast, Brugge sporting director Dévy Rigaux said: "If he had not scored two goals against Real Madrid, he could have been a Club Brugge player."
Brugge had tabled a bid worth eight million euros, plus three million in add-ons, to Benfica and had reached an understanding with Schjelderup, who at the time had limited prominence.
The eighth and final game of the Champions League league phase changed everything. Schjelderup started, scoring on 36 and 53 minutes to seal a famous night for Benfica.
Benfica opted to keep him and his form surged in the second half of the campaign. Interest has since grown, and Brugge remain among the clubs monitoring him. His minimum price is 40 million euros.
In 2025/26 he played 43 matches for Benfica, logging 2,548 minutes, with 10 goals and seven assists. His appearances were 28 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga. He is valued at 20 million euros.
