Andressa Alves praises Corinthians after Women’s Club World Cup final

The Corinthians' qualification for the FIFA Women's Club World Cup final was celebrated with relief and pride by the Brabas. After a 1-0 victory over Gotham FC from the United States in the semifinal held at G-Tech Community Stadium in London. In an interview with Meu Timão, Andressa Alves highlighted the team's preparation and ability to withstand pressure throughout the 90 minutes.

“We prepared a lot. We suffered at the beginning of the game, we were under pressure. Playing 90 minutes, you have to know how to suffer; some people knew how to suffer and also counterattacked very well. I'm very happy with the way the team played. We knew we had to unite, we had to play for each other. Gotham was an excellent team. So now it's time to enjoy, rest a lot, and think about the final,” said the player.

The midfielder also commented on the physical aspect of the match and the refereeing, emphasizing the need for adaptation during the game.

“We knew it was a physical game. I watched the American championship, had a lot of contact, played there, so I knew that. And with the European level, I had a lot of contact too, right? The referee let the game flow. I don't think she had a bad game, but there were some cards, especially mine, where I didn't do anything and ended up getting an unnecessary card. But that's part of the game, the referee won't always get it 100% right, and we have to do our part. If the referee doesn't give it, we keep running and can't stop,” she added.

A declared Corinthians fan, Andressa is experiencing a special season since her return to the club last season. Champion of the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship with the alvinegra jersey, the player emphasized the symbolic weight of playing in the first Women's Club World Cup defending Corinthians.

“For me, it's a unique feeling. I came back to play for my favorite team. Living this with Corinthians, being able to show the world that Corinthians is big, because everyone was saying it would be Arsenal and Gotham in the final, and we stayed quiet, worked, and showed that this jersey here is giant,” said the number 8.

The athlete also shared the personal dimension of the moment experienced on and off the field, highlighting her identification with the club.

“Man, it's special. Sometimes it doesn't sink in. Sometimes I sit in the locker room, look around and say: ‘Okay, I really am at Corinthians’. And today, in the game, I was just thinking about that, that I had to play like a Corinthians fan, that Corinthians fan from the stands, with passion, giving my all for 90 minutes, and then what happened, happened,” she added.

Finally, Andressa projected the grand final of the tournament and commented on the possible atmosphere in the stadium against the English team.

“I think it's going to be really cool because Arsenal's fan base is growing a lot. I follow the league a lot, it's also a passionate fan base. Since it's in their home, I believe it will be packed, but our fans will also be here. Let's wait and see what happens, so we can prepare well, because Arsenal is an excellent team, Champions League winner, and will probably be the favorite in the final,” she highlighted, commenting on facing the English team.

The FIFA Women's Club World Cup final will be held next Sunday, February 1st, at 3 PM (Brasília time), at the Emirates Stadium in London. Corinthians will face Arsenal in pursuit of the unprecedented title of the first Women's Club World Cup in history.
