Flamengo announced on Thursday 15 the signing of goalkeeper Andrew, and the Botafogo coach who worked with him as a youngster has offered emphatic praise.

“He was considered a gem at Botafogo, with very big potential. Everyone bet that he would be Jefferson’s successor. He did very well in the youth categories, under-14, under-15, under-17, always with call-ups to the Brazil national team. At under-20, he was also called up.” He told Lance!

“I think it is a great opportunity for him to be at one of the biggest clubs in Brazil, which is Flamengo. When Flamengo need him, in Rossi’s absence, I am sure he will fill in very well. Who knows, in the future, he might become Flamengo’s first-choice.”

Flamengo offered €1.5 million, approximately R$9.4 million, plus 10% of a future sale for Andrew’s immediate release. Gil Vicente accepted the bid and the goalkeeper signed a four-year contract.

Botafogo also tabled a three-year pre-contract for the player they developed. The Rubro-Negro project weighed in his decision.

Andrew was one of the standouts in the 2025/26 Portuguese league. In November, the 24-year-old was named the competition’s best goalkeeper for a second straight month, having also won in October.
