The 21-year-old spent 18 months on loan at Strasbourg, and scored ten goals last season as the Ligue 1 outfit qualified for the Conference League.

The Brazil international made his long awaited Chelsea debut at the Club World Cup, and has looked impressive in the appearances he’s made this season.

Santos scored his first Chelsea goal against Wolves, in what was arguably his best performance for the club to date.

The Brazilian was delighted to get his first goal for the club, and praised Maresca for allowing him the freedom to attack.

“The first goal is always very special,” he told Globo Esporte.

“I’d been trying for a while, but there was always something missing.

“Maresca gives me the freedom to get forward as a surprise element, like I did at Strasbourg, and this time I was lucky and able to help the team.”

Santos has been linked with a move to Manchester United recently, but Chelsea have made it clear the midfielder isn’t for sale.

Chelsea stacked with midfield options

Santos has had to be patient for his opportunities, and has made 11 appearances in all competitions, although competition is fierce with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Enzo Fernandez.

However, Santos has hailed his start to the season as special, and he’s vowed to continue to work hard in order to get more opportunities.

“I work very hard every day, seeking improvement, understanding the game, and addressing my weaknesses,” he added.

“This start to the season has been very special. I hope to grow and continue this evolutionary process.”
