Delort shares the inside story of his first selection for Algeria

Former Fennec Andy Delort opened up about his first call-up with Algeria in an interview on the football podcast “Kampo”.

Now 34 years old, the Sète-born striker currently plays for AC Ajaccio, which now competes in the Régional 2 league.

Delort, or Bouzelouf as he’s affectionately known in Algeria, recounted the story behind his first appearance with the “Greens”.

“I hadn’t received my Algerian passport in time to be part of Algeria’s initial squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019), but I eventually benefited from the exclusion of Harris Belkebla to join the group selected for AFCON,” he revealed.

“I was spending my holidays with my family when I got a call from Djamel, asking me to join the national team as they were preparing in Doha, Qatar,” he continued, before concluding, “It was an incredible adventure, and the images of the jubilant fans will remain etched in my memory forever.”

As a reminder, Andy Delort has 15 caps for the “Greens,” scoring two goals and providing one assist.
