Andy King says Leicester City should target a head coach who can develop the club’s potential. The interim boss is focusing on guiding the team for now.
LeicesterMercury.co.uk reports that King will not take the job permanently and the club are assessing candidates to replace Marti Cifuentes.
City are on a downward trend, sitting 17th in the Championship, their lowest position at this stage of a season since they were in League One 17 years ago.
King believes the talent in the squad, particularly the young players coming through, offers a manager the chance to lift City again. He feels that should be a major selling point and that the next appointment must be willing and able to nurture it.
Even so, chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha said at the weekend he wants to stabilise the season, indicating a short-term hire to steer City to the end of this campaign and avoid a second drop into the third tier.
With no appointment imminent, King is preparing to lead the side against Birmingham this weekend. He will preview the game at a press conference on Thursday.
