Ange Postecoglou has criticised Tottenham Hotspur for not acting like a 'big club' during his time in North London.
Postecoglou spent two seasons in charge at Spurs but was sacked last summer, weeks after ending the club's 17-year trophy drought with Europa League success.
Spurs ended Postecoglou's second season 17th in thePremier League, the club's lowest league finish since 1977.
Discussing his Tottenham tenure, Postecoglou said the board's lack of ambition in the transfer market contributed to his second-season struggles.
"It's a real curious in terms of understand 'what are they trying to build, what are they?'. They've built an unbelievable stadium, unbelievable training facilities, but when you look at the expenditure, particularly in their wage structure, they're not a big club," he said to theStick to Football podcast.
"I saw that, because when we were trying to sign players, we weren't in the market for those players. At the end of my first year, when we finished fifth... for me, how do you go from fifth to really challenging? We had to signPremier League ready players. Finishing fifth that year didn't get us Champions League so we didn't have the money.
"We ended up Dom Solanke, who I was absolutely really keen on signing, I really like him, and three teenagers. I was looking at Pedro Neto, (Bryan) Mbeumo, (Antoine) Semenyo, Marc Guehi. If we're going to go from fifth, that's what the other big clubs would do in that moment.
"Those three teenagers are outstanding players, and I'll think they'll be great players for Tottenham, but they're not going to get you from fifth to fourth or third. What was coming out of the club was that we were a club that could compete on all fronts.
"When you walk into Tottenham, what you see everywhere is 'To Dare is to Do'. It's everywhere. Yet their actions are the antithesis of that."
