Ange Postecoglou brutally binned, Celtic rumour mill inevitably starts | OneFootball

Ange Postecoglou was brutally sacked yesterday afternoon and naturally enough the rumour mill has him coming back at Celtic. Not for me, though. Celtic can do without the managerial musical chairs…

Ange Postecoglou was yesterday brutally sacked by Nottingham Forest after a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea compounded his woes after a horror start to his short-lived career at The City ground.

Indeed, the Aussie had failed to win a game since been unveiled as Manager just six weeks ago. It seems harsh, but given the reputation of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, we shouldn’t be that surprised.

Ange, who can also consider himself unfortunate to be dismissed at Spurs despite leading them to Europa League glory, will still have that burning desire to succeed, but maybe elsewhere on the continent, or as some Celtic supporters have been suggesting, a return to Celtic Park in the summer when Brendan Rodgers inevitably departs.

As good as Ange was for Celtic, he’s a guy I still admire and have a lot of time and respect for, bringing him back is not for me. Sorry to be that guy, but that’s just this ordinary Bhoy’s opinion.

Folk will point to the fact that we brought Brendan back to replace Ange, and we can’t deny he’s done a splendid job with more still to come, but look at the repetitive stick the Irishman has been taking due to his ‘predictable’ philosophy when it comes to tactics.

Ange himself can be accused of being just as ‘predictable’ as Brendan, when it comes to his approach to the game, with both as stubborn as each other when it comes to sticking to their principles. Indeed Brendan is more pragmatic than Ange in that he will change course when required. After the Dortmund disaster he changed his away form against Atalanta – easily as good a side as Dortmund – and more recently he changed his 4-3-3 shape against Sporting Braga to go 3-5-2.

Of course Ange would naturally bring a sexiness back to our play, and would undoubtedly be successful in Scottish football, but in my opinion, we need a new man in the dugout after Brendan leaves. In fact a complete overhaul is due in the entire coaching department to give us some much needed freshness in that area.

Ange has nothing to prove coming back to Celtic and that’s exactly why he himself is unlikely to be interested in the job. He wanted to go to England all along – he actually made  no secret of that – he got his chance and twice has been bitten by boardroom sharks. Nottingham Forest’s bad run didn’t start because of Ange, go see how they got on in the dozen or so games before he arrived.

Celtic can do without the managerial musical chairs and when Brendan goes it will be time to look forward and not back to the very unique situation Ange found himself in the summer of 2021.  He’ll leave British football having managed two European Cup winning clubs and bering European glory to another. He’ll have been particularly well paid for his time in England and has nothing to prove to anyone in his incredible career.

For his next job he really needs to choose the club carefully and do his due diligence on the boardroom numpties.
