Ange Postecoglou challenged a Saudi journalist who claimed Cristiano Ronaldo 'did nothing' for Al-Nassr, the Mirror reports. The former Nottingham Forest boss has been in charge since the summer.
Al-Nassr sit third in the early standings and were beaten 4-0 by Al Ain in the Asian Champions League during the week.
At his post-match press conference, one reporter argued that, while respecting Ronaldo’s career, his presence was not helping the team in matches.
Postecoglou replied: “Cristiano has scored three goals already, and he had limited preparation.” He said the squad were giving everything and that any responsibility was his.
He warned against disparaging a player he said still sets an example, adding that criticism should be directed at him. When a journalist said, “In the last three matches, he did nothing,” Postecoglou answered: “He did nothing? You’re watching a different game to me.”
Ronaldo, 41, has been at Al-Nassr since his acrimonious 2022 exit from Manchester United and has scored 132 goals for the club. He also contributed to last season’s Saudi Pro League title under Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus. Their title defence resumes after the international break against Diriyah.
