Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is on the verge of redemption with Spurs after reaching the Europa League Final. The Australian manager has been slagged off all campaign after his comments that he always wins things in his second season and now, he is within 90 minutes of ending Spurs’ trophy hoodoo.
With a 5-1 aggregate win over Bodo/Glimt, Spurs are headed to Bilbao to face off against Manchester United for the Europa League.
Ange and Spurs have struggled domestically and the league form has certainly suffered for their European adventures. As the Spurs boss pointed out, no one will remember their league form if they were to win a trophy.
Celtic fans will want Ange to win, even if the Spurs fans do not deserve a manager like Ange. Celtic hired Ange from Yokohama F Marinos in the summer of 2021 with a massive rebuilding mission after the COVID season. After just one season, Celtic were back on top and had the League Cup in the bag with an exciting style of football. This was backed up in the second campaign, with a Treble following.
Such were the displays with Celtic and the dominance that season that Spurs came calling. There were a number of candidates considered but Daniel Levy identified Ange resulting in the move to North London.
Spurs enjoyed the benefits of Ange’s football this year but have struggled with injuries and consistencies this year. This has resulted in a lot of the blame being left at Ange’s door, even if it is clear that the manager needs a certain type of player to carry out his instructions.
Hopefully Ange can get the trophy that he deserves and the recognition of his football with Spurs, even if he leaves the club at the end of the season.
