Expansion side Angel City FC announced two international signings ahead of their debut NWSL season, adding German goalkeeper Almunth Schult and French midfielder Clarisse Le Bihan to the roster.
Schult joins the team from Wolfsburg on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year. She will arrive at the club after competing at the European Championships this summer as Wolfsburg stands in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
“We are delighted to sign Almuth Schult to Angel City FC. Almuth is one of the best goalkeepers in the world with a host of winning accolades at the highest level of the game that will bring winning experience and a winning mentality to our group,” said ACFC sporting director Eniola Aluko in a team statement.
“Almuth is in a very small category of players who have won league titles, Olympic Gold medals, European Championships, and the UEFA Champions League. It is a special addition to our goalkeeper group and defensive unit.”
The goalkeeper echoed Aluko’s statement, expressing joy at joining the expansion team.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NWSL," she said. "I have followed Angel City since the day the team was announced. It’s so impressive and unique. Everything is not only about football, it’s about impact and supporting women. I am proud to be joining the team and I look forward to the summer.”
French midfielder Clarisse Le Bihan will also arrive in Los Angeles, signing a two-year contract and occupying an international roster slot. She joins from D1F club Montpellier.
“We are delighted to welcome Clarisse Le Bihan to Angel City FC. Clarisse is a highly technical, skilled, and hard-working midfielder who has lots of experience playing as a defensive midfielder and can also play in an advanced midfield role,” said Aluko in a team statement.
“Clarisse holds 16 caps for the French national team and has a clear desire to continue her consistent performances over the years for Angel City this season.”
Le Bihan has played in France her entire career, kicking off at Guingamp in 2009 before transferring to Montpellier to feature in over 100 regular-season matches.
The team is currently in the group stage of the Challenge Cup before debuting in the NWSL.
