Angel Gomes and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg eye Premier League moves as Marseille plan more exits | OneFootball

Marseille are continuing to trim the squad this summer, with Angel Gomes and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg both keen on returns to England. According to L'Équipe, the pair are exploring Premier League options.

Gomes was not central to Bruno Genesio’s plans at Lille in 2024-25, yet he has featured heavily in pre-season. He played as a number 10, ahead of Höjbjerg and Nnadi, in Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Qatari side Al Shahania.

Aged 25, and 26 on 31 August, he wants to establish himself in the Premier League. His loan at Wolverhampton early in 2026 was not a clear success, but the England international still hopes for another chance. Coventry, managed by Franck Lampard and promoted to the Premier League, have made enquiries.

Marseille will not stand in his way, and his salary is sizeable after arriving on a free in summer 2025. Genesio also wants reinforcements in midfield and is a strong admirer of Quinten Timber.

Höjbjerg could also head to England in August. After interest in Italy and Türkiye, and rejecting Saudi Arabia, he and his camp are in contact with Newcastle, who could move for the Dane, 31 since Wednesday, to add experience to a midfield hit by departures including Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

He captained Marseille in the spring under Habib Beye and has been open about leaving for months, having been close to Serie A in January. The club are seeking around 10 million euros for a player signed from Tottenham in July 2024.
