L’Équipe reports that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ relegation to the Championship means Marseille are now certain to welcome Angel Gomes back this summer.
The 25-year-old England international joined Marseille last summer after leaving Lille on a free. He struggled to settle under Roberto De Zerbi and was on the fringes before a January loan to Wolves.
He has made nine Premier League appearances since returning to England. He will not drop into the Championship and, had Wolves stayed in the top flight, the switch to Molineux would have been made permanent.
Despite a contract running to 2028, he is not expected to stay at the Vélodrome.
A summer transfer away looks probable, although uncertainty over Habib Beye’s future could yet alter that.
