Angelo Stiller ‘turned down’ Bayer Leverkusen approach | OneFootball

According to Sport Bild, VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller turned down a summer approach from Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen contacted his representatives to explore a move. After taking time to consider the proposal, he declined.

Champions League football with Stuttgart this season was a key factor, while a switch would have meant Europa League involvement with Leverkusen. Another incentive was his close relationship with head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, having played under him in Bayern Munich’s youth ranks and later at Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.

Stiller’s contract runs until 2028 and includes a release clause of around €37 million. Stuttgart can buy out that clause for roughly €3.5 million and could have done so had Leverkusen lodged an initial offer.

The clause does not apply in the winter transfer window and only comes back into effect next summer.
