Leeds United are now eyeing £22m winger Tyrique George after deadline-day frustration over Facundo Buonanotte and Harry Wilson. Angus Kinnear could yet look to beat Leeds to George.
According to Caught Offside, Leeds face competition from six clubs for the England U21 attacker, with Southampton attempting an ambitious Championship move, Roma and Leipzig keen to take him abroad, and Fulham, Everton and Crystal Palace also interested, and that George wants a permanent January exit from Chelsea due to limited minutes.
Earlier in the window Leeds saw a £30m offer for Igor Paixao accepted by Feyenoord, only for the Brazilian to join Champions League side Marseille. Buonanotte is said to have agreed to come before Chelsea hijacked the deal and took him to west London.
On deadline day Leeds moved for Wilson. The winger wanted the switch but Fulham blocked an exit and the move did not materialise. Underwood had already faced criticism in the summer for failing to get attacking signings over the line. That followed George’s £22m switch to Fulham collapsing in the summer.
Kinnear left Leeds in the summer after an eight-year stint as chief executive and could aim to outmanoeuvre his former club for George. George was handed opportunities under Enzo Maresca, largely in last season’s Conference League which Chelsea would go on to win, but has not kicked on amid a crowded forward group that now includes Estevao, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
