Anne Hathaway, a devoted supporter of Arsenal and the New York Knicks, is enjoying a dream end to the sporting season. It coincides with the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2.
According to L'Équipe, after Arsenal sealed a place in the Champions League final, Hathaway posted an Instagram video singing the club anthem. She congratulated the squad, highlighting Declan Rice and Mikel Merino.
She has said she became an Arsenal fan in 2004 during Arsène Wenger's Invincibles. She has called Thierry Henry perhaps the greatest player of all time, a passion passed down from her father.
Supporters have enjoyed the symmetry, Arsenal’s last Champions League final appearance came in 2006, the year the first film was released. At the sequel’s premiere she even draped an Arsenal shirt over her shoulder, and said she believed in their Premier League chances.
The joy extends to basketball, with the Knicks winning Game two of the Eastern Conference semi-finals against the Philadelphia 76ers 108-102. The run underlines their intent in these play-offs.
Earlier, while promoting the new film before a 140-89 first round win over the Atlanta Hawks on 30 April, she said she had considered wearing an OG Anunoby jersey and wanted the players to know she backs them to win. Knicks centre Karl-Anthony Towns even makes a cameo in the new film, and Hathaway could yet celebrate a memorable sporting double.
