Another comeback and Reijnders record: All the key stats from AC Milan vs. Como

AC Milan clinched all three points against Como despite going 1-0 down, completing yet another comeback this season. As always, there are some interesting facts and stats to note from the game.

Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders were the two heroes of the night, scoring a goal each in the second half. As a result of the win, Milan are now five points behind top four – though the teams there have a game in hand – and the Europa League target is at least alive.

In any case, let’s take a look at some key facts and stats from the game at San Siro, such as Rafael Leao making his 250th appearance for the club.

Como dominated possession…

Taking a look at the main stats, it’s clear that Cesc Fabregas’ side played a very bold type of football, taking the game to Milan rather than sitting back and defending. They probably would have come away with all three points if it hadn’t been for a very narrow offside, truth be told.

The xG stat, however, wasn’t too different between the two sides and that perhaps suggests Como didn’t take advantage fully of their possession. Just three more shots on target compared to the Rossoneri further attests to that.

Another comeback for Milan

Milan completed yet another turnaround in Serie A, which has become the norm under Sergio Conceicao, and only one team has done better in that sense. Since the Portuguese manager took over, only Bologna have claimed more points after going down in the top-five European leagues.

The Rossoblu, led by Vincenzo Italiano, have claimed 15 points from such positions while Milan are currently at 15 in that timeframe. It should be noted that Bologna did this against the Rossoneri in February, following Leao’s opener.

Pulisic strikes again

The American continued his impressive form, following two goals against Lecce, and it was indeed a wonderful strike that equalised the game. He now has 15 goals and 9 assists in all competitions, while being well on the way of beating his personal best in the league (12 goals in 2023-24, 9 currently).

Clearly, he has settled in perfectly in Milano and it’s no surprise that a renewal is on the cards for the No.11. Milan will be hoping that he can continue this form as at least securing a spot in the Europa League is crucial.

Reijnders smashes personal best

Before this season, Reijnders had never hit double figures in terms of goals scored. Now, he has 13 in all competitions and it doesn’t look like he will stop. The No.10 role, or more advanced midfield role if you like, suits him really well in Milan’s system.

Furthermore, it was also the first time he managed both a goal and an assist in the same game for Milan. He was indeed decisive and the recent contract renewal is fantastic news for the Rossoneri fans.

Leao reaches milestone

As we highlighted in an article on Friday, Leao needed just one more appearance to reach 250 for Milan and he got it last night. While he didn’t get the mark the occasion with a goal or an assist, his importance over the last few years is undeniable.

Since his debut in 2019-20, he’s the only Serie A player who has scored at least 50 goals and provided at least 50 assists in all competitions.
