Alex Howell reports for the BBC that Arsenal’s lead performance coach Sam Wilson is set to leave the club for a European team. Wilson has been with Arsenal since 2014, but he’s been strongly linked with a move to Juventus.

Howell claims that sources report the move is Wilson’s own decision, and that he could have stayed with Arsenal. He’s choosing to leave for a more senior role elsewhere.

Arsenal have made a lot of changes behind the scenes this summer, including in the medical department. But this is seemingly one change that wasn’t their choice.

On top of Wilson’s exit, Real Betis’ Eneko Angulo is reportedly joining Aston Villa’s Arnaldo Abrantes in filling the unexpected gap left by club doctor Zafar Iqbal’s departure.

Then Arsenal are in talks to appoint Pascal De Maesschalck as their new academy manager after Per Mertesacker’s exit, and the Arsenal u21 head coach position is also vacant after Max Porter’s move to Stoke City.

Further up the hierarchy, Arsenal are reportedly also bringing in Javier Alonso from Spanish Segunda Division club Granada CF to work alongside Andrea Berta, with Maurizio Micheli already joining from Napoli earlier this year.

So it’s been a summer of change behind the scenes already, even if very little has changed with the actual playing squad at this stage.
