Over the last few days, it has become increasingly clear that FC Barcelona will not be able to land their top-priority target of this summer transfer window, i.e., the Atletico Madrid center-forward Julian Alvarez.
The player himself continues to push for a move to the Blaugrana club, and has not trained with the rest of his teammates for the last three days, even though he returned to train individually at the Colchonero club’s facilities on Friday.
On the other hand, the Mattress Makers have once again made it clear that they will not negotiate with the Catalans for the Argentine forward, and their CEO made some very fiery remarks aimed at Barcelona a few days ago.
However, Atletico do understand that keeping Alvarez in their squad against his wishes is also not in their best interests, and thus, they are willing to let him leave for a side other than Barcelona. The Premier League side Arsenal have been interested in him, and look to be the most viable destination for him if the Argentine agrees to join them.
Meanwhile, MARCA reports that Alvarez’s former club, Manchester City, have now also entered the race for his signature. The Citizens have seen important players like Omar Marmoush and Savinho leave the club, leaving their attacking line quite weakened, and they are looking to take advantage of their former forward’s situation at Atletico Madrid to land him on loan.
For now, the Manchester club has only made initial inquiries about the player, and not started any negotiations for him. Going forward, they are expected to face the same problems that Arsenal have faced in Julian Alvarez’s pursuit, i.e., the player’s reluctance to return to England and the high demands of Atletico Madrid, who are not willing to let the player leave for less than €150 million.
