Another Transfer Setback! Former Bayern Star Alaba Can’t Find a New Club | OneFootball

The search for a new club is increasingly turning into a test of patience for David Alaba. The longtime Bayern pro has been on the market on a free transfer since leaving Real Madrid this summer, but has yet to find a new employer. Now, it appears the next prominent option is off the table.

According to the English newspaper Manchester Evening News, Manchester United has ruled out signing the 34-year-old. It is reported that the deciding factor was not so much Alaba’s athletic ability as the English record champions’ new transfer strategy.

According to the report, United intends to focus more on younger players with long-term development potential in the future. Older professionals with correspondingly high salary expectations apparently no longer fit into this strategy.

For Alaba, this marks yet another rejection from a top European club. Despite his vast experience and the fact that no transfer fee would be required, his search for a new club remains difficult.

Lazio and Inter also apparently turned him down

Manchester United isn’t the first high-profile club with which Alaba has been linked recently. Lazio Rome is also said to have shown interest in the Austrian national team player.

According to information from Tuttomercato, however, the Italians backed away from signing him after initial interest and have since shelved the matter.

Even before the start of the World Cup, Inter Milan is said to have explored the possibility of a transfer for Alaba but ultimately decided against it.

This means that several potential options have fallen through in a short period of time. The search is likely to be complicated for the 34-year-old because interested clubs must consider not only his age but also his athletic prospects and salary.

Yet Alaba brings a wealth of experience that few unsigned professionals can match. The Austrian has won nearly everything at the highest level.

At FC Bayern, Alaba became a global star

Alaba enjoyed his most successful and longest stint in club soccer at FC Bayern. He arrived in Munich as a youth player and went on to develop into one of the best fullbacks in the world.

With the German record champions, the Austrian won, among other titles, two Champions League titles, ten German championships, and six DFB Cups.

In the summer of 2021, Alaba left Munich on a free transfer after his contract expired and joined Real Madrid. He continued to add to his trophy collection with Los Blancos as well. In five years, he won, among other titles, the Champions League twice and the Spanish league title twice.

His time in Madrid came to an end last summer. His expiring contract was not renewed, meaning Alaba once again became a free agent.

However, the 34-year-old has not yet found a new club. With Manchester United, it now appears that another prominent candidate has dropped out of the running. The previously discussed options of Lazio and Inter also seem to have fallen through.

For the former Bayern star, this means more waiting. Despite his impressive resume, it’s becoming increasingly clear that big-name status and being a free agent alone aren’t currently enough to secure Alaba a spot at a top European club anytime soon.
