Ansu Fati’s Monaco campaign has been paradoxical, the Spaniard rarely starts yet keeps deciding games. He has 11 goals, only 12 starts in 45 outings, and averages a strike every 109 minutes.
According to Nice-Matin, Monaco signed him last summer to relaunch him and eased him in as he regained rhythm. Handed minutes in late September, he struck three times across his first two outings.
Most of his impact has come from the bench, including last Saturday at Metz when his winner aided the push for Europe. He has completed a full match only once, the first derby at Nice, and hit a brace.
His minutes have been managed after injury-hit seasons. He is lauded for composure, movement and finishing, while off-ball work still needs sharpening to fit an intense press. Fitness gains suggest that side of his game is improving.
Monaco would like to trigger a €11 million option to keep him for another season. He remains decisive without being indispensable, which captures the oddity of his year.
