Anthony Gordon’s influence with England is growing, the Barcelona winger scoring and assisting in the 7-0 rout of Croatia. It underlined his rapid rise with the Three Lions.

He was denied on three, nine and 25 minutes by his Barcelona team-mate Dominik Livakovic, then set up Jude Bellingham for 2-0 on 21 minutes after controlling Bukayo Saka’s pass. According to L'Équipe, the 25-year-old joined Barcelona on a five-year deal worth 80m euros including bonuses.

He made it 3-0 on 39 minutes with a diving header from Jarell Quansah’s cross and later went off for Eberechi Eze on 70 minutes. He now leads La Liga with four assists.

He scored in each Nations League outing this window, running on to Bellingham’s pass in a 2-3 loss to Spain and glancing in a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross in Czechia’s 2-0 defeat.

At the World Cup he delivered three assists in the knockouts and struck first against Argentina on 55 minutes, before being replaced by Ezri Konsa on 72 as England slipped to a 1-2 defeat under Thomas Tuchel.

He has been involved in nine goals across his past seven England games, four goals and five assists, and Tuchel has said the winger looks more confident and increasingly decisive. Harry Kane scored his 88th and 89th goals and is one cap short of Peter Shilton’s 125, which he should equal against the Czechs at Wembley on Tuesday.
