Manchester United travel to Newcastle with their spirits high after recording six wins in seven Premier League games under Michael Carrick.
A win at St James’ Park tonight would see United secure a Premier League double over Newcastle and extend the gap to an impressive 18 points.
Since the PIF takeover, there has not been a bigger gulf between the two clubs, putting the Champions League-chasing Red Devils in a strong position to tempt Newcastle stars to Old Trafford.
According to SportsBoom, Manchester United are set to make an £80 million (€91.95m) bid for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon amid a crisis in the wide areas.
It is claimed Michael Carrick is “desperate to land the job on a permanent basis”, and Gordon is one of his priority targets.
The report states: “Carrick is determined to overhaul the wide areas at Old Trafford and Newcastle United and England international livewire Gordon has emerged as the No 1 target.”
The 25-year-old has struggled in the Premier League this season, but in the Champions League, he has 10 goals and two assists to his name.
Carrick is keen on adding “pace, purpose and personality” back into the first team and believes the electric Gordon to be an ideal fit for the role.
Gordon is not the only Newcastle star on United’s radar.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Mancunians have added Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali to their wishlist as they want to overhaul their midfield in the summer.
It is understood United have made “informal contacts” with the representatives of both Newcastle midfielders.
Tonali’s agent has already suggested that the Italian would consider his options at the end of the season.
