Manchester United look unrecognisable under interim head coach Michael Carrick, who has instilled confidence and calmness into the squad.

The Red Devils, who struggled to win back-to-back league matches during Ruben Amorim’s reign, have now won five of their last six. In fact, United have won more points in 2026 than any other Premier League side.

The incredible run of form has also put United in a strong position to secure a Champions League spot. The fourth-placed side are three points ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.

Manchester United plot double Newcastle swoop

Champions League football has the potential to have a transformative impact on Manchester United’s transfer budget, with INEOS already outlining ambitious plans for next season.

According to a report relayed by Football 365, United are looking at “a major squad overhaul this summer to compete for the Premier League title”.

The club’s aim is to strengthen their midfield and attack. Accordingly, they are “preparing” an “all-out offensive” to land both Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon from Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

The Mancunians have reportedly “prepared the financial reports that will support a proposal of around €170 million” for the Newcastle duo.

Manchester United hopeful of luring Gordon and Tonali

It is understood Anthony Gordon has become a “top target to bolster Manchester United’s attack due to his dribbling skills, directness, and goalscoring ability.”

United are allegedly willing to offer €95 million to convince the Magpies to sanction the sale of the England international.

The 25-year-old electric winger has 10 goals to his name in the Champions League this season. Only Kylian Mbappe has scored more in Europe’s premier competition during the same period.

“On the other hand, the midfield requires the vision and physical presence that Sandro Tonali has honed in the north of England. The Italian midfielder is the ideal fit for Carrick, who sees him as the conductor needed to dominate high-intensity matches,” adds the report.

Furthermore, United are “confident” that the appeal of their project and the presence of Carrick will be key factors in convincing players to move to Old Trafford.
