Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has suffered another major career setback.

United career

The Frenchman signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco.

Martial played a total of 317 matches for United, scoring 90 goals for the club.

The Golden Boy award winner regularly flattered to deceive in a United shirt, but he did show his talent on occasion, especially in the 2019-2020 season when he formed a fantastic attacking trident with Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Martial’s career was blighted by injury and he endured a poor loan spell at Sevilla before leaving the club in the summer of 2024.

He joined AEK Athens before leaving after one year to join Mexican side Monterrey, where he has scored a desperately disappointing one goal in 19 appearances.

Latest setback

To add to the attacker’s tough start to life in Mexico, Martial has picked up a serious injury.

The Sun reports that, “Anthony Martial was carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital after suffering a horror shoulder injury for Monterrey.”

It appeared that the forward had dislocated his shoulder during his side’s 1-0 win over Club Leon.

The Mexican side released a statement to update their fans on the injury status of the 30-year-old.

They stated, “Club de Futbol Monterrey reports that player Anthony Martial suffered a dislocated right shoulder during the Matchday 6 game against Leon. Anthony’s recovery prognosis is subject to change.”

Significant time on the sidelines

Should Martial require surgery, he could be out for three to six months. Even if he avoids having to undergo a procedure, he could still spend four to six weeks recovering.
