Bournemouth forward Semenyo thriving as spotlight grows

Antoine Semenyo has become the pulse of Bournemouth’s vibrant season, a winger moving with the confidence of someone chasing the horizon rather than glancing back. Six Premier League goals already, only Erling Haaland has more, and Bournemouth sit second in the table, four points behind Arsenal. This is not a flicker, it feels like momentum.

Linked to glamorous destinations in the summer, Semenyo chose continuity. His former team-mates Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Illia Zabarnyi departed, yet he decided the south coast was still the right stage. That faith has paid off handsomely.

“I don’t think about it too much,” Semenyo said. “I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I’m not oblivious, but I try to keep focused.”

Commitment paying dividends for Bournemouth

The Ghana international joined from Bristol City in 2023 and has grown into the heartbeat of Andoni Iraola’s side. His goal return last season reached double figures and he has surged again in this campaign.

“I’m enjoying my football here. If I’m not scoring goals, all of that goes away. I try to stay present, do the best I can for the team, score goals and whatever happens in the future happens.”

He added another layer to that decision. “I knew in my head that the manager’s got something up his sleeve this year… I’m glad I committed to staying here because I’m enjoying every moment.”

Targets and technique driving Semenyo

Only turning 25 recently, Semenyo speaks like a player who understands progress is crafted quietly. He keeps a journal, using it to challenge himself.

“With the journal, every year, I write my goals,” he said. “Fifteen goals would be great… I work on my finishing a lot, in the off-season as well.”

His versatility extends to his feet. “I’m right-footed… but using both is natural,” he explained.

Bournemouth visit Manchester City this weekend and the question inevitably rises, could Europe beckon? Semenyo stays measured.

“Anything is possible, but the manager says take it game by game because things can change quickly… I give props to the team and we stay grounded and do what we do best.”
